Note on Program Accreditation

Walden University applied to the Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH) for accreditation of its Master of Public Health (MPH) program on September 20, 2014. The accreditation review will address only the MPH program; other degree programs and areas of study offered by this institution will not be included in the unit of accreditation review.

Note on Certification

The National Board of Public Health Examiners (NBPHE) offers the Certified in Public Health (CPH) credential as a voluntary core credential for public health professionals. Individuals who have a bachelor’s degree and at least five subsequent years of public health work experience will be eligible to take the CPH exam. However, for individuals without these qualifications, a candidate must be an alumni of a school or program of public health accredited by the Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH).

While Walden's MPH program is an applicant for CEPH accreditation, the program is not yet accredited; thus, Walden MPH graduates must have at least five years of post-baccalaureate public health work experience in order to sit for the CPH exam. Students should evaluate all requirements related to national credentialing agencies and exams for the state in which he or she intends to practice. Walden makes no representations or guarantee that completion of Walden coursework or programs will permit an individual to obtain national certification. For more information about the CPH credential, students should visit https://www.nbphe.org.

CEPH Accreditation Applicant Status

Walden University’s Master of Public Health (MPH) program is currently an applicant for accreditation through the Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH). Our preliminary self-study report was submitted to CEPH in September 2018, and our final self-study report was submitted to CEPH in March 2019. A team of external reviewers, selected by CEPH, conducted an on-site visit April 29–30, 2019. CEPH Board of Councilors will formally notify Walden’s MPH program of their accreditation decision in early October 2019.
